Ilkley’s White Wells will be open for the traditional New Year's Day Plunge on 1st January after a 3-year Covid enforced break.
In previous years hundreds of brave souls celebrate the new year by taking the challenge of a dip in the water of the plunge bath which dates back to 1791.
Mark and Joanne run the landmark and café and told Ilkley Chat: “We are hoping for a good attendance and seeing many of the regulars return, as well as those who are considering the challenge for the first time. We'll be open between 10am and 5pm.
“There is no charge for taking the plunge, but donations and support of the café are welcome. Hot drinks and plunge-bath certificates will be on sale. Please note, that we are a 'cash only' venue and are unable to accept card payments. Sorry for any inconvenience."
This year the couple are asking those wishing to take part to sign a register before joining the queue, so the amount of dippers is known at end of the day.
