The now-annual chance to take a zip wire ride "like no udder" over Ilkley Moor is back in July, with fundraisers heading to the Cow and Calf Rocks to raise money for Manorlands Hospice.
This year's Zip the Cow takes place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July 2024, and will see brave challengers walk up to the top of the iconic ‘cow’ at the Cow and Calf Rocks above Ilkley, before whizzing 270m down Ilkley Moor at speeds of up to 35mph.
It follows the success of last year’s event, which saw 400 supporters ranging in age from 8 to 76 take to the skies, raising £50,000 for families needing care at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope.
Andrew Wood, Community Fundraising Manager, says: “We see each year that Zip the Cow is a superb way for local families to come together and celebrate a loved one’s big birthday, anniversary or memory.
“It’s always fantastic to see people cheering, laughing and waving as granny flies through the air over their heads. We hope that this year’s Zip the Cow will once again offer the opportunity for families and friends, clubs and workmates to share a truly memorable experience on their doorstep, all while raising funds for a very worthwhile local cause.”
The zip is suitable for people of all ages, providing they are between 32kg-111kg and physically fit enough to walk the rough path to the top of the cow rock. No training or fitness is required and everyone who takes part will receive a bespoke ‘I Zipped the Cow’ medal.
This year's Zip the Cow is sponsored by Crag and Co. accountants of Skipton and one other joint headline sponsor place is still available. Any businesses interested should contact Andrew Wood on andrew.wood@sueryder.org.
Entry is £27.50 with a minimum fundraising target of £50, which will make all the difference to patients and families needing Sue Ryder’s expert care. For more information and to sign up, visit sueryder.org/zipthecow.
