Rotary to hold its annual Recycling Day in Ilkley

The Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale will hold its annual collection of items for recycling on 5th October 2024.


As usual the event takes place in the main Ilkley car park, please bring your items between 10am and 3pm.


The following items would be welcomed:


  • Old bicycles (children’s and adult)

  • Old workshop tools

  • Sewing machines

  • Mobility aids

  • Spectacles

  • Old trainers

  • Items for Gambia School Trust (no clothing or toys - please see below)


A spokesperson for The Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale said: “For the Gambia School Trust we are now collecting dictionaries, pictorial encyclopaedias, early years educational books, pens and pencils, pencil sharpeners, rubbers, colour pencils (not wax or gel). also, some sports equipment - small cricket bats, pads, tennis balls, small racquets, blow-up footballs & pumps. sorry - please no clothing or toys (which are outside the import agreement).”


The Club is supported by the Margaret Carey Foundation which collects bicycles, wheelchairs and walking aids and has them refurbished mainly in prisons, to help prisoners attain a skill and thereby reduce re-offending, they are then donated to people in need in the UK and overseas.


Tools For Africa who give new life to unwanted tools and assembles them into kits for carpenters, builders, automotive repairs, dressmakers etc. and distributes these through WorkAid to African countries so that they can start small businesses and support their communities.


Finally, Biasan (Bradford Immigration and Asylum Support and Advice Network) collecting trainers for their charity.
