The Rotary Club of Ilkley has donated £16,000 raised from its Holly Ball and Business Quiz to Martin House Children’s Hospice.
At its weekly lunch meeting on 27th February at the Wheatley Arms in Ben Rhydding, a cheque was handed over to Martin House senior fund raiser, Chris Verney, by secretary of the Rotary Club of Ilkley and Holly Ball management committee member, Peter Settle.
Peter said: “The Martin House Hospice has been our Charity Partner now for the last 2 years and we are delighted that during that time with our main fund raising event the annual Rotary Holly Ball and the Andrew Hartley Memorial Business Quiz organised by David Shaw MBE.
“Due to the generosity of our attendees and commercial supporters we have made this sum for this very worthy charity. Martin House provides a dignified end of life experience for children and young people as well as counselling and support for their families at their state of the art facility in Boston Spa.”
Peter adds: “We are truly grateful of the support from our local community who annually get behind us and without them we would not be able to support Martin House the way we have done.”
At the lunch meeting, Chris Verney from Martin House gave members a brief presentation of the hospice plans to extend and update their offering in the coming months. This involves a large campaign fronted by England Football Manager, Gareth Southgate, with a wide range of events over the Summer and Autumn.
