Ilkley Chat has been informed of a phone scam that appears to come from a local '01943' number.
Corrie Hardaker said: 'Be mindful people when taking calls. Just had someone ring claiming to be from IT Solutions and ringing on an 01943 number (which later turned out to be non existent). They said someone tried to gain access to our laptop and asked if we did internet banking. I didn’t give anything away and have reported the matter to BT. '
There has also been an increase in Covid-19 related scams locally, Yorkshire Air Ambulance had to take to its social media to say 'we won't be calling people asking for help during this time - so if you get a call, you know it's scammers' following reports of scam calls claiming to be from the charity.
There have also been warnings not to fall for a scam text message, which appears to be from the government, saying they have been fined for stepping outside during the coronavirus lockdown.
