White Wells on Ilkley Moor will be open for the traditional New Year's Day Plunge on 1st January!
In previous years hundreds of brave souls celebrate the new year by taking the challenge of a dip in the water of the plunge bath which dates back to 1791.
Mark Hunnebell and Joanne Everall run the landmark and café and told Ilkley Chat: “We are hoping for a good attendance and seeing many of the regulars return, as well as those who are considering the challenge for the first time. We'll be open between 10am and 5pm.
“There is no charge for taking the plunge, but donations and support of the café are welcome. Hot drinks and plunge-bath certificates will be on sale.”
2023 proved to be a great atmosphere with a total of 285 people 'Taking the Plunge' throughout the day. The tradition started in 1995 and the record to be broken is from 2020 when 300 took part.
