Long serving Ilkley firefighter retires

This week Ilkley Fire Station said farewell to Watch Manager Alex Watson, who has retired after serving the community of Ilkley for an impressive 41 years!


Alex joined the service on the 2 October 1980 where he began as a firefighter and has served as a Watch Manager for the past 22 years. He has dealt with many incidents over his career, acted as a teacher and mentor to the new staff Ilkley have gained and has made many friends along the way.


Posted on the stations Facebook page, the crew of Ilkley said: “we will be hosting a presentation night for his retirement on the 12 October to say a proper goodbye and most importantly, celebrate his career in the fire service.


“We wish you all the best Alex for the future and hope you enjoy your retirement.”
