Long-time Ilkley resident Jane Sellers has been announced as the Conservative candidate in the Ilkley Town Council West Ward by-election.

Jane has lived in Ilkley for 40 years and has worked in the NHS for the past 12 years at Ilkley's Coronation Hospital. Now she says she wants to give back to the community she has called home for so long.

Speaking about her decision to stand for election as a town councillor, Jane said: "Ilkley is at my heart. We need a strong local voice to stand up against Bradford Council and protect our local services."

She said that she was horrified by the recent decision by Bradford and Ilkley councils to forge ahead with implementing the 20mph and speed bumps scheme, despite the overwhelming opposition of local residents.

Joanne Sugden, Conservative candidate for Ilkley Ward on Bradford Council, said: "I am delighted that Jane Sellers is standing for Ilkley Town Council. I was a town councillor for 12 years and I can see that she will be a fantastic councillor. If elected, our absolute priority is to give residents a voice in how their town is run and fight to protect our vital local services."
