It may be the thirteenth time the event has taken place, and it falls two days before Halloween, but the next Ilkley Playhouse Vintage Fair will definitely be a treat for lovers of vintage and retro rather than a trick.
The popular event returns to the Weston Road venue on Saturday 29th October with 20 stalls selling all kinds of vintage clothing for women and men, homeware, kitchenware, furniture, toys, vinyl, and many more retro items.
Doors open at 10am, with many of the top vintage sellers from the north of England bringing their wares for the people of Ilkley to browse until 4pm.
Whether you are looking for a unique Christmas gift for a loved one or simply seeking an outfit for the festive season that no one else will turn up to the office party wearing, vintage is the answer according to organiser Jill Coulson of Burley-in-Wharfedale business Alfie Robot Retro.
“’Vintage’ generally refers to items produced between the 1920s and 1980s,” says Jill, “it was a time when goods were built to last, which is why so many people prefer to buy a great quality pre-loved item than a new version that might fall apart within months. With the cost of new items rising at a rapid rate, and people really wanting to cut down on waste, buying vintage is the perfect alternative.”
When asked what shoppers can expect on the day, Jill says “there will be so much variety on offer. From Biba dresses to Hornsea Pottery, a wealth of vinyl records to framed vintage prints. We make sure we cater for all tastes and all budgets.”
Making their debut at the Ilkley Playhouse Vintage Fair is Morley-based company, Goods In. Owner David Bridgeman is looking forward to taking over the bar area of the theatre for the event.
“At Goods In we concentrate on vintage, industrial and salvaged goods for homes and businesses,” he says.
It’ll be my first time trading in Ilkley and I’m super excited as it’s somewhere I’ve spent a lot of time in the past. It’s a great community with plenty of heritage, which fits well with the items I’ll be bringing along.
You can expect to see loads of cool old interior pieces including furniture, lighting, storage, prints, vintage office stationery, workshop items, glass, stoneware and more. Goods In is a sustainable way to find those original salvaged pieces with tonnes of character.”
Ilkley Vintage Fair takes place at Ilkley Playhouse on Saturday 29th October. Doors are open from 10am until 4pm and entry is £1 per person (under 16s are free).
