Saturday [19 October] marks International Repair Day 2024, and it was 12 months ago that Ilkley Thingery launched a low cost textile & electrical repair service.
From its base on Church Street, Ilkley Thingery runs a Library of Things that its members can borrow for a fraction of the cost of buying new. Those items include tools, gardening equipment, kitchen things, camping equipment, board games and toys,
Erika Shilling from Ilkley Thingery told Ilkley Chat about the repair service: "In that year we have repaired over 140 electrical things, 87.5% of which were successful, and 154 textile things, items such as clothes, bags, toys, bedding and furniture.
"We offer low cost textile, electrical and bike repairs for Ilkley Thingery members, in return for a small fee."
You can become a member of Ilkley Thingery to use this service at the www.ilkleythingery.org.
If you have Electrical Things that are in need of repair, contact repair@ilkleythingery.org with details (what you'd like repairing, what problem's you've had with the item, and what your max. budget is for the repair, including parts and labour).
If you have Textile Things that are in need of repair, contact repair@ilkleythingery.org, with details (what the item is, preferred style of repair, e.g., visibly, invisibly, with bright colours, or subdued, etc., and your max. budget, including materials and labour).
Erika adds: "There are only 2 repairers at Ilkley Thingery - one textile and one electrical repairer. If you can repair things, can spare some time to help and would like to volunteer as a repairer at Ilkley Thingery, do contact me for more information (erika.shilling@ilkleythingery.org). We would greatly appreciate your help."
