History Hub to explore the Victorian transformation of Ilkley

1861 Brook Street newly culverted

On Saturday, February 24, at 2.45pm the Ilkley Civic Society’s Local History Hub is presenting an illustrated online talk on the Victorian transformation of Ilkley.

The talk will be given by Alex Cockshott and Robert Templar.

The talk will show the quiet village Ilkley was in early 1860s.  The railway arrived in 1865, increasing the value of land. William Middelton, the new lord of the manor, took the opportunity to sell land for the houses which grew the village.

The talk will look at the first Land Sale in 1867 when the plan for wider, new streets was laid out.
