Guided Walk in Ilkley Cemetery

The Friends of Ilkley Cemetery have organised a guided walk on Sunday 11 August which will look at some of the people who are connected with Ilkley’s Hydros who are remembered there.

Ilkley has long been known as a spa town. Initially people came to “take the waters” at White Wells and then in 1840s “the water cure” became popular as well. The first hydrotherapy establishment opened in 1844 – Ben Rhydding Hydro – soon to be followed by Wells House Hydro, Craiglands, Troutbeck and many others.

Friends of Ilkley Cemetery, part of Ilkley Civic Society, have organised the short, guided walk which will be led by Denise Shillitoe. Starting a 2pm, it will look at some of the people connected with Ilkley’s Hydros – owners, staff and guests – who are remembered in Ilkley Cemetery.

Anyone wishing to take part is asked to meet at 2pm at the Ashlands Road entrance.

The event will last approximately 90 minutes.
