Approved! Plans for a new 100 seated stand for Ilkley Town

Ilkley Town AFC received an early Christmas present when approval was given for a new 100 seated stand on Christmas Eve.

On its Twitter feed the club said: "We are delighted that our planning application for a new stand has been approved by Bradford Council planning office. It will really improve the spectator experience. Keep moving forward."

The planning application was supported by over 130 local residents. Work is expected to start early in the new year and the stand will be positioned at the west end between the hockey pitch and football pitch.

The club, based on Leeds Road, continues to grow with a record 690 registered players this season starting at age 5 and up to the super veterans aged 60.

Club Chairman, Richard Giles said: "This is about more than just the first team. The club is growing at all age groups. In addition more people are coming to watch games whether that be to see the junior teams, the women or indeed the men's first team. The seated stand will cater for supporters who prefer to sit to watch the game. It will also provide shelter from the wind and rain which is not uncommon at Ben Rhydding!"

Providing spectator facilities is necessary for the club to retain its league status. 50 seats are needed for the current level and 100 seats are needed should the men's first team be promoted to the Counties Premier division.
