Ilkley & District Community Showcase

The Ilkley & District Showcase Took place on Wednesday 5 June at The King's Hall & Winter Garden in Ilkley.

The Showcase event came from a request from a meeting of 40 local community groups hosted by the then Town Mayor, Stephen Butler, and supported by the Manager of Ilkley Community Action, Mary Hamilton .

After many months of Hard work a small committee of Stephen Butler, Mary Hamilton, Stuart Hyde ( Clarke Foley Centre & Enterprise Link at IGS ), Peter Mate ( U3A ) & David Shaw ( Rotary )  put together the Showcase event) which 55 Community Groups attended and many members of the public in a full Winter Garden & King's Hall.

The aim of the event was to provide a spotlight on the Ilkley community, enabling exhibitors to promote their organisation and to highlight any volunteering opportunities.

The Two Rivers Trombones opened the event with a Fanfare and then Dr Soo Nevison CEO of Community Action Bradford welcomed everyone followed by an passionate address from the new Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr Ros Brown, who spoke about the life long rewards to all concerned volunteering can bring.

Refreshments where provided by Outside The Box and Stray FM where in attendance interviewing Groups for the Radio.

The event was supported by; Ilkley Round table, Ilkley Rotary Clubs, Ilkley Town Council, Shoo social Media, Print Crew Otley, U3A & The Clarke Foley Centre.

The volunteering initiative for Ilkley & District has resulted in a new website www.volunteeringilkley.org.uk and a Volunteering Ilkley feature each Sunday on the Ilkley Chat Facebook page.  All voluntary Groups are encouraged to register on this new website asap.

Many Thanks where given To Stephen Butler & Mary Hamilton & her staff from Ilkley Community Action for all their hard work in completing these important projects for our Community.
