FOIRP planted three sack loads of bulbs on the embankment by the steps at the War Memorial end of Riverside Park

Friends of Ilkley Riverside Parks call for help

Friends of Ilkley Riverside Parks (FOIRP) is a new Group which has been set up to work with the Council with the aim of improving the Parks and Recreational areas beside the River Wharfe in Ilkley and developing new ideas on how the Park areas can better serve the residents of Ilkley and District and others who come to visit Ilkley

“As we develop our plans for the future (and more about this in the next month!) we are keen to get on and do really practical things which will make a difference to the way the Park looks, while planning bigger projects for the future”, said the Interim Chair, Ed Duguid

Last summer there were several Litter Pick’s which made a difference, and in November some “members” of FOIRP planted three sack loads of bulbs on the embankment by the steps at the War Memorial end of Riverside Park. Now the bulbs are out and worth going down to see the vast array of Daffodils added to the existing displays in the Park.

Ed added, “On the theme of doing things which will make a difference, we are now doing two initial sessions on Tuesday evenings on the 9th and 16th April, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, meeting at the War Memorial in Riverside Park, by the New Brook Street Steps, to start the edging of the Paths in the Park. If anyone would like to help out then come along at 6:30 pm and bring along preferably an edging tool (Half Moon) or a spade, and join in! Ideally contact us at the details below to let us know you are coming along."

The Group will be holding a Public Meeting in May to talk further about their bigger plans for the future and what’s currently in the pipeline

If you think you would like to be involved in the work of this new group as it develops its plans and takes action, please contact the Interim Chair at: ed@ed-duguid.co.uk or contact the Secretary, Steve Singleton at: foirp.member@gmail.com
